Solvent cement is used to join PVC/UPVC and CPVC plastic pipes end and fittings. It is applied to the Outside of pipe-end and on the Inside of fittings. The pipe is then pushed into the fittings until it bottoms with delay. Solvent cement softens and dissolves the surfaces of the pipes end and fittings making them bind together by means of chemical fusion, and a chemical weld occurs. This weld strengthens over time as the solvent evaporates.
